What are the top three things affecting our industry today?

1. Globalization - the business activity and box-office grosses slowly shift from the US to international destinations. Current emerging markets (Russia-CIS, China) with their rapid growth will likely dominate the international marketplace in the near future. Increasing influence of the international talent.
2. "The Long Tail". Mass-customization: the rise of the niche products that do not cost much, but bring high profit margins. Slow decline of the blockbusters' market share in the domestic and international, theatrical, DVD and online markets in the last 8 years. Rapidly changing customer preferences cause relatively high inflation of the starpower and franchises, commoditization of genres and technology. All these factors force creativity.
3. Changing sources of income - from theatrical grosses and DVD sales/rentals to online revenue streams, merchandise sales, product placement/advertising partnerships, etc.
